10 Random Traffic Generation Strategies - Part 3

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Do also join our FREE membership where you will find tons of bonus marketing reports, cheatsheet and guides. Yep. 0 charge, 100% value. Join NOW!

image4_thumb2Today, we will be continuing where we left out from the 2nd issue of ‘10 Random Traffic Generation Strategies’ series.

As usual, these value-packed traffic tactics come in bite-sized nuggets.

Without further ado, here’s part 3!

Note: There are thousand and one ways to get traffic. What’s important is to take action and focus on the ones that work best for you.

1. Add social bookmarking icons to your site. And encourage visitors to bookmark your site.

2. Optimize your site for the search engines. If you are using WordPress, you can use the All-In-One SEO plugin that takes care of your on-page optimization needs (meta tags, keywords, description and title).

3. Host a webinar

4. Submit your site to review sites.

5. Do a 3 way link exchange.

6. Join a high authority forum or group in your niche, and contribute valuable content. And have all the good karma transferred to your site when you put it up in your signature.

7. Write link-baiting content. A good way is to touch on very controversial issues (e.g. Is Google a big conspiracy?)

8. Write a lens on Squidoo…and as usual…put in good information…and have them keyword optimized.

9. As above…but with Hubpages.

10. Hold a teleseminar

There. The 3rd in the series…

More to come? Definitely. We are just getting started! What do you think?

Let me know your thoughts.

All Success,

    Nice post but too short. If one already knows everything about e-marketing one doesn’t have to read this. And if one doesn’t know, this list isn’t going to help much.
    Why don’t you write a seperate “how to” post about each point, that would be really helpful!
    Greetings,
    Sophie

    @Sophie:

    Thanks a lot for your comment. While I would have to agree with you, the ‘random traffic strategies’ is just meant to be short and bite-sized.

    I will probably have a whole focused on a specialized traffic generation method in future.

    Thanks for the feedback Sophie. Appreciate it.

    Do not participate in 3-way link exchanges. They are easy to spot and an old-school link spam tactic. The more you do them the more you create a pattern. At best Google ignores the links and so you’ve spent loads of time organising the exchanges for probably no benefit (unless you’re lucky enough to get traffic and link exchanges very rarely bring much traffic). At worst, if you do a lot of them, Google thinks you’re trying to trick them (and doing it badly) and your site either stops passing link juice (as do the link exchange sites) or in the worst possible cases you get penalised.

    If you are doing link exchanges, make sure they’re on-topic so you’re actually sending people to useful sites and getting traffic in return. This looks like the natural way of the web and you may see some benefit.

    Hi Mindy,

    Thank you for your views on 3 way linkings. Up front, I definitely would agree that when we do link exchange, we wanna keep it on-topic. Keep it relevant.

    That’s more believable in the eyes of google. We link up with people on similar keywords.

    Having said that, I’m not convinced 3 way links are bad.

    I won’t go into the details because someone can explain it way better than me - jonathan leger.

    Check out his post here on this subject

    Thanks for your input Mindy. You raise some good points.

    I agree with sophie. If you could share what helped you and why each point was a benefit, how much traffic, what you did uniquely. Also if you could share what you learned along the way. This is just not enough sharing from someone with your skills.

    One last thing. Can you filter out the spammers who leave comments, they make it hard to read the great comments from the other readers.

    Teleseminars and webinars not just for driving traffic, it serves as a great outlet for training. So you are adding value back to your visitors/prospects/customers.

    @Georgiev:

    Always glad to be of some help.

    @Paula & Email Marketing Templates:

    Yes, the All-In-One plugin pretty much took care of most of my blog’s SEO needs. Very useful and handy plugin to have around indeed!

    @Bruno:

    You are right. Not all capitalize on them. Including me. =P

    @Karl:

    Thanks for your feedback. Point taken. Will try to get meatier posts that are more focused on specific traffic strategies.

    Yep, spam comments will be deleted.

    Thanks once again, Karl!

    did you take the traffic pic of the blog by yourself?

    Posted by
    Mindy
    13 August 2008 @ 9pm

    In regards to the 3-way links, the problem is that it looks like trickery. If you do the odd 3-way link you’re probably fine, but the people who will approach most bloggers or small businesses to set these up are generally not just doing a few - they’re doing hundreds or thousands which means you’re doing something to trick Google so you can improve your pagerank (which they frown upon) and probably connecting yourself to bad neighborhoods.

    Having dealt with these types of link schemes back in the early days of this century, we always found that the time it took to get the links arranged far outweighed the traffic alone and when you factored in the risk that you might look as though you were linking to increase rankings rather than for the benefit of your visitors it ceased to be a tactic we would employ or recommend to our clients.

    At least with reciprocal linking, if two sites are on a related topic it’s natural that they should link to each other and it falls in with the old Teoma idea of hubs and authority sites and topical communities.

    @Redox:

    Nope. I got it from Creative Commons.

    @Mindy:

    Actually I don’t mean doing 3 way links on a large and purposeful scale. But rather, if your swap partners has 2 related sites, then it may make more sense to do a 3 way link than a direct reciprocal.

    That said, the best is still to get one way, good and authoritative link back to you.

    And that’s why stuff like article marketing still works so well.

    Thanks for the good input, Mindy. And nice informative marketing site you have there!

    Frankly I am not a big fan of three way link exchanges, or any link exchanges for that matter. I also would never pay to get a link, etc. for the same principle that you are now feeding solely search engines rather than your visitors.

    I would suggest you add article marketing to that list, as it is the king of white hat SEO while also bringing in huge traffic and backlinks if used correctly.

    If you do 3 way link exchange, you should know that search engines improved their algorithms and they can detect this. It is not a danger to be penalized though, it depends a lot about the sites link to and from, and how many links come from exchanges like this.
