Getting Others To Relate To YouIn marketing, when it comes to selling effectively, other than the product and value factor, a lot are dependant on whether you can get people to trust you.

To trust you, they got to like you. To like you, they got to feel that you care for them. To feel that you care for them, they got relate to YOU.

How?

Simple. In fact, it is simpler than you

Encourage them to ask questions. So they know it is not a robot or a man packed with explosive ready to blow your shit out of the water.

After they asked, you want to answer their questions. Show them that you care. Show them some empathy.

Clarify their doubts. Crystallize the hazy picture for them.

Now…even at times, when you are too busy to answer their questions, you can simply have a reply saying that you are busy at the moment and you appreciate their question. And that you will get back to them as soon as you can.

In that way, they will feel that you have their interest at heart. That’s important.

Another way to immediately get people to relate to you can be just as simple as putting up a face…to your face (* hint*see the handsome mug below =) )!

Now people at your website will know who they are talking to. There is actually a living thing behind the persona.

You will be surprised. Little things like this make a hell lot of difference.

Why do you think some of the best pulling sales copies have their sellers’ faces on it?

To immediately establish a connection! To start off on a ‘trustworthy’ footing.

Any thoughts?

Let me know what you think.

I agree, you have to personalize the content. It makes you seem like a normal, regular person, just like them, rather than a program doing nothing but harvesting info!

I completely agree with encouraging prospects to ask questions - it shows that you’re interested in their concerns. Also, if it’s face-to-face selling I’d always recommend taking a step back and allowing the prospect to speak. Far too many salesmen just speak over potential customers and never build up a rapport.

    @Jennifer:

Nothing pisses me off like those robots posting stupid comments on my blog.

    @ Effective sales letter:

Right on. There is a technique called: 2 steps forward, 1 step backward. Give information. Then ask. Give information then ask. Very effective.

Well i totally agree with you. We are surfing the web 2.0 internet where everything is being shared. So in order to get some love from visitors you have to give at least little love also. It is simple as that :)

True in marketing your product you have to make the clients feel that you understand them and feel close to them. This definitely make your marketing useful.

It is an informative article! Very well said..if you want to have a good relationship with your costumer give them a great product that you have, put the effort and love of your job in the product that you would like to endorse and give them a time to ask about the product. As the one who manage and own a business you must be ready for the worst and good thing that you could hear and read.

Perhaps there is someone in your life that you find hard to relate to. You just don’t “get” him or her-the person’s actions or viewpoints. Take some time to just sit still and think about that person. What may his or her “world” be like? What is the person’s background? Where did he or she come from? Perhaps they are dealing with insecurities, family issues, or other personal issues. Think of ways that you can talk to the person or find out about him or her and begin to develop an understanding. You may never fully understand some people, but endeavor to mentally walk in their shoes as they do. You don’t have to agree with them, but try to understand them and be sympathetic to their pligh.

You make a great point! Personal trust is not as necessary with online selling, because it is simply hard to do on the Internet and people understand it. For certain niches, however, it does apply.

I definitely agree that trust is a big factor when it comes to successful marketing. Once that trust is established it’s a win win situation for both parties.

In my opinion, depending on the product that you are selling, it is totally relevant to put the photo. Example… if you are selling a skate boarding product, you might be more inclined to buy the product, if its being sold or endorsed by the likes of Tony Hawk, etc. And you know, the more comfortable the buyer gets, the more likely he is to buy more than he should ;)

It’s always good to talk to someone you can vision/see. Kind of like calling in for customer service, but you get the annoying automated system. With blogging and selling, building a relationship is the key. People want to feel safe and trust the person they are talking to. Like you have wrote, open-ended questions are the best way to build a relationship.

    @ Zobel:

Forging partnership is a powerful leverage. But not all partnerships are effective if it is not relevant and win-win.

    @ Jamie:

Right on. People wanna connect with you. But how they gonna connect if they cannot see you…or feel you?
Showing the personal touch is v important here.

    @ Energy:

    Yep, the proverbial trust factor.

    @ Cheap cars:

Well put. Taking the time to find out more about the person likes, dislikes, background goes a long way to establishing a close relationship. As is empathy.
