Killer Distractions – No.1 Way To Die…

killer distractions

I believe one of the top reasons that hold us back in our path to success is distractions.

Distraction to me can be a huge killer. And I mean this on a very fundamental level.

We can be distracted by many things.

What about hot new “opportunities” coming to you fast and furious at every possible angle?

What about grabbing the latest success or strategy guide before you are even halfway done with your last book?

What about checking your email every now and then…and then logging in to all the greatest social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook…and engaging in mindless chatter and surfing?

But it doesn’t just there.

For many of us, we keep repeating this crazy cycle over and over again…

Does these sound familiar to you?

What is happening is that you are letting these noises GET IN THE WAT of what really TRULY to be done!

And that is hampering you. That is slowing you down.

The kicker is that sometimes we know we are being distracted. But yet we are allowing ourselves to be distracted.

It’s the intuitive thing to do.

Does that resonate with your current actions?

Think about it.

If you are being distracted by such noises – say no to them. Say NO to any thing that comes into your way and suck away precious productivity juices from you.

The next time, a hot new opportunity come to you – say buzz off. Wait till I’m done with what I need to do, and we can talk.

Do that to every distractions.

Be warned. It’s not going to be easy. Because for a lot of us, we are already programmed to take part in activities that take take our focus away. It’s a deadly habit if you will.

In order to make a breakthrough – we gotta unlearn this habit.

So make a commitment to yourself to rid yourself of distractions.

Each time you feel you are engaging in something that is not meaningful to your overall goal – slap yourself. Yes, BITCH-SLAP yourself if you have to.

And snap yourself out of it. You will soon learn the habit of power focus. Once learnt – it’s hard to unlearnt. So let’s get started on it.

What do you think?

Let me know your thoughts below.

All success,

Jag Foo

P.S  I will be updating my blog less often from now on. Probably once or twice a month. Max.

This is because my time is being increasingly taken up by other business activities.

That coupled with my desire to spend more time creating products as well as information for my private newsletter membership means I will have lesser time for this blog.

I think that is only fair to the subscribers who sign up. They deserve more good content. And I can’t be taking my eyes off the ball.

Also, it’s much faster to write off a quick email and sent it to the our subscribers base than publishing blog posts here.

So if you like to get more value-added information as you can read in this blog, then you will want to sign up now.

Simply go to the top of the site, click “membership”, wait for page to load, fill in your name and email, and you are in. That’s it.

image

Or you could do so at the form below.

I will be announcing some free goodies to my subscribers.

Not only that for future product releases that I will have…our subscribers will be the first to know. And the first to get at a member price. Meaning a lower price.

And for a select few, I will even give away review copies to them. But remember – that’s only for those who are signed up. It’s free by the way.

So if you are not our free newsletter list yet, I like to see you in.

Thank you.

You are so right! Lack of focus on day to day activities in your Internet home based business is the number reason for procrastination and not getting anywhere you want to go online.

However, the only real way to deal with this is to get into the habit of fighting the urge to give in to your distractions and keep focused.

You can also eliminate the majority of distractions very easily. Take the phone off the hook, shut down your email client (unless it’s part of your day to day activity), turn off TV and put dogs somewhere else where you can’t hear their barkin’.

And make sure your family knows when work time is. When it’s your time to work on your business they leave you alone. Much love and keep up the great work! :-)

@Flash, Background Investigation, Property Sale, Womens Air Jordan, Lanyard Badge Holders, John:

I hear you. I absolutely hear you.

John, you mentioned the “discipline” bit. That’s important. But also the most difficult to put into practice.

So the onus is on us to develop these habits into “rituals” So that it will become automatic over time.

I highly recommend you guys to check out Tony Schwartz’s Energy Project about managing your energy and be more productive.

=> http://www.theenergyproject.com/home.html

Excellent point about educating your family. Do that to your friends and clients too.

Thanks again, John – and the rest of you guys who have commented.

Warmly,
Jag

this is so true, distractions are the number one cause to not reaching your goals or becoming successful. It is very hard to keep moving forward and on track when things come up in life. But that’s why we have to stay focused because of life’s unpredictability. The only control we do have is our focus.

The key is to distinguish between the distractions and the real leads. I know people who are great at juggling multiple possibilities at once, knowing how far to follow them before they turn out to be duds (or to keep going if it’s not a dud!) Distractions can be good if you can keep your eye on the prize.

As soon as I started reading your post, I thought to myself “email” and then you mentioned it. It is so true though. I have been trying to close my email client for a couple of hours at a time. That way, I do not get pulled away constantly from the task at hand. I find that I’m a lot more efficient if I reserve answering emails just a couple of times per day.

@ Irish Jewelry:

Emails are a killer I tell you. And until now, I’m still “suffering” from it! Definitely works better if we schedule our email replies.

I usually sort my emails by priority and answers those that are more important first. Those not-so-important can come later.

@ Lesley:

Facebook and a lot of other social networks are generally very distracting. And that’s why I stay off them.

@ The rest:

Looks like this post strikes a chord with a lot of you.
Good to have some food for thought.

Better to identify them now…and make a change…then be at the mercy of distractions forever!

Distractions have kept me from doing a great deal of things lately. It sure is easy to get caught up in them, and then one day it is kind of like I wake up and realize that I really need to start getting some things done. One way I do this is to start a list of things that I have to do the next day…..don’t start out with a big list, just a couple of things to give satisfaction that you did not let yourself get too distrcated by other things, so you really end up feel good at the end of the day. Then the list can start building.

Yes, it’s true that long term focus on one project is required to get some really good results. It’s very difficult to achieve though. And you can end up just hitting a wall.

So I do think that doing several things at once can be a good policy as long as you don’t spread yourself too thin. Why? Because one of those things may turn out to be a real winner.

The trick is to capitalize when that one thing really starts to bear fruit, and focus on that while putting the others on the back burner.

Regards,
Matt.

@Stella:

Good tip there. Start with a smaller list and complete them one by one. Some people start off with a way too big list and end up accomplishing nothing.

Why? Because they try to tackle everything in 1 shot – which can be counter-productive. Glad you made this important point.

@John Detitta:
You are sure distractions make you stronger?

@Matt:
I think you hit it rightly when you talked about not spreading yourself too thinly. And that’s what precisely what happens when people try to multi-task too much.

Even now, I’m still guilty of it. It’s a constant battle against distractions…especially now with all the socia media stuff going on!
