Ramp Up Your Productivity – And Achieve More – In Lesser Time!

Skyrocket your productivity!

Have you always feel you are working damn hard…feeling damn tired and all…totally drained…but strangely you feel you have NOT done much work at all?

Or that you find you are always getting distracted, jumping from one thing to another, and end up achieving very little?

If you are – you are not alone.

Many of us loves to multi-task and we think we can achieve more by doing many things at the same time.

But in truth, you end up being more tired AND less productive.

It’s a fact.

Eben Pagan, has a superb personal productivity program  at WakeUpProductive.com, and he teaches all the techniques on how to super-charged your personal productivity to do the stuff that matters the most.

You can go to WakeUpProductiveBlog.com to watch some of his videos. And just by reading his visitors’ comments will give you some insights on what NOT to do if you want to be more productive.

That said, here are some tips to get you off and running…and being more productive – TODAY!

  1. Don’t check email the first thing in the morning or when you start your computer. Start with doing the most important issues first. Allocate a time sorely for doing it.
  2. Sort work task by priority – most profitable one first
  3. Use an egg timer to start off your work. Go in work “bouts” of 2 hours of uninterrupted solid work. You can further split down into 4 smaller “bouts” of half work each time. Download a computer clock timer here: http://tarry91.quotaless.com/index.html => Trust me if you do this properly, it can be damn effective!
  4. You may reward yourself with a short rest between each half hour bout or after the 2 hour cycle.
  5. Focus on 1 task at a time. And only open windows relating to the particular specific task.
  6. Make a list of all distractions and everything that is holding you back.
  7. Don’t read emails obsessively, MSN, TV, internet surfing, forums etc
  8. Always reward yourself after a hard work
  9. Drink lots of water.

10. Exercise to get your heart beat up!

Try it.

And let me know what you think.

All success,

Thanks for this list!

I get distracted often and it really gets frustrating, so I’m going to put your checklist on my desk right now to keep me “on track” – thanks again.

Best to you …

I especially like the idea of using an egg timer. I make task lists but it can be easy to be distracted – can see an egg timer helping to keep you focused.

I’m a big fan of using a timer or stopwatch to cut up a day into segments of time. I feel it allows you to focus better on the task at hand, as well as reward yourself with a little break after being so productive. :)

Eban knows what he is talking about. Everyone has the same amount of time but how we use it varies greatly.

It certainly has for me. The results are amazing!
Small tweak – but big results.

You are absolutely right. It’s about how effectively and efficiently we utilize our time. Very important point you made here.

cool post. in this day in age of so many people working at home these are all good tips. the computer is an amazing tool for the self-employed and the telecommuter, but it can also be a giant distraction machine.

Checking email first thing is a killer for me. I wake up knowing I shouldn;t – but then I convince myself there might be a really urgent email in my inbox.

Of course, there isn’t – but by the time I;ve found that out I’ve been sucked into the world of trivial emails.

Hi Ian,

It’s for me as well. And many many people.

So you are not alone.

The key thing is that we have to be disciplined.
And once the habit is formed of not checking emails,
it becomes more permanent.

But first we must break out of this cycle first.

Not easy, but can be done.

Warmly,
Jag

wow, you are so right. Every morning I immediately check my email and then never set to a “plan of action”. Def going to try and use a timer and see how that works. I hope it increases my productivity. Man i get distracted so easily.

Getting multiple things is not a easier thing, however we need to understand the process first and then get involved. Without that we may be the losers.

@Clindy:

You are right. We need to understand the process first before undertaking it. That is crucial because we don’t have to waste time wandering haphazardly around.

We can go right at it. And that’s precisely why having a proper system/workflow is sooo important.

Jag
