Procrastination and perfectionism often go hand in hand. Perfectionists tend to procrastinate because they expect so much of themselves, and they are scared about whether or not they can meet those high standards. Perfectionists sometimes think that it is better to give a half-hearted effort and maintain the belief that they could have written a great paper, than to give a full effort and risk writing a mediocre paper. Procrastinating guarantees failure, but it helps perfectionists maintain their belief that they could have excelled if they had tried harder.

Excellent points ! EVERYTHING in life begins with a decision and mindset and if that first step is taken with the wrong mindset, the project will be that much more open to failure.

It's all about what you're procrastinating on! You can procrastinate on the 20%, but prioritize the other 80% to make sure you're getting your "important" stuff done in a timely manner. Answers will very person to person, as we all run at our own speed. :)

I agree with the 20/80 rule, but the biggest problem I have is figuring out what is the 20 and what is the 80! If I could sort that out, I'd be set :)

perhaps (just to keep things in a positive mindset) it would be better to think “I’m deliberately doing the productive 20% first”

I have to agree with you, it’s silly to spend a lot of time learning things, not to apply what you know. I know someone like this that’s very knowledgeable but doesn’t even work for a living. In fact, he barely ever goes out side. He’s a person that reads a great deal and is a computer whiz but never really does anything with his knowledge. It’s kind of a waste.

I understand what you're saying, but perhaps (just to keep things in a positive mindset) it would be better to think "I'm deliberately doing the productive 20% first" than "I'm putting off doing the unproductive 80%". Just a thought.
