Online Marketing Success Cycle

marketing cycle In my previous post, we touch on rules to how to win the business war.

Today, let’s delve deeper on actions we can take on the journey to online marketing success.

Again, we want to keep on the premise that success can come in simple and actionable steps.

Nothing complicated. Just a cycle that we have to keep doing…keep optimizing and…keep going.

This online marketing success cycle I’m going to show you today will lay out the path clearly for you. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Just do it.

By the way, this cycle is not devised by me. Been used with great effect by many successful online businesses. So you know it works. And it was first pointed out to me by one of the best marketers I know – Paul Myers of TalkBizNews.

So here goes:

1. Sell Products

Most obvious start. You don’t make money by selling air. So you create on product that has a demand and meets a need or is a solution to a problem – and sell it. Then money will flow in.

2. Generate Subscribers

You wanna keep a list of prospects and customers. For those that don’t buy the first time round, you can follow up with them and sell them again. And you can sell them alternatives product. Importantly, build a relationship with them.

For those that bought from you before, they can buy again. So keep working with them.

3. Recruit Active Affiliates

The best salesman don’t do everything himself. He gets others to sell for him…to spread the word for him. So we are talking about leverage and scalability here. It will help kick-start your profits to another level.

4. Generated Targeted Traffic

Get in front of people who actually want your product. People who are actually relevant. You will get higher conversion, and your sales process will be more effective and efficient.

5. Generate Links

You need to generate link to form pathways for traffic to come to you.  More pathways to your site = more presence = more traffic = more potential profit!

6. Create Products

Keep creating products for a wider audience. More products out there, and more chances for you to increase your revenue.

7. Build Network

You want to own your network. You don’t want to be sorely dependent on a single source of incoming traffic. You want a big network…of various branches and channels, where there are people that knows you and your products.

8. Go Back To Point 1

Rinse and repeat!

That’s all there is to it. Not that difficult after all right?

Your comments are welcome.

All Success,

Good read, generating traffic and links is probably the most important part, as without that you won’t really be able to implement any other things.

Here is an article you might find useful.

Nice post :) I 100% agree with you specially with the Create Products point. People needs and requirements keep on changing and one should meet their needs. If you don’t then you are left behind in the competition. SO in order to compete it is better to new and innovative products to your customers.

Creating links suck.. it really does. Its either more than half the net is trying to do the same way, or you get rejected. EX.. i sent over 100 emails for link trade… 5 emails me back. sigh

I like your tip about getting affiliate sellers. Do you have anymore detail on the best way to approach that? I am assuming you should start with people you know/trust.

I like the fact that you put the “sell your own products” on top of the list. The more I market other companies and peoples product the more it rings home that there is more benefit to be gained by having your own product.

Selling your own product and then combining that with an affiliate program I think, is the best way to increase one’s revenue.

Good read although some form of search engine optimisation/advertising should be included in the cycle.

People sometimes rush into a business they really like without considering whether there’s a demand for it. The classic one for me is womens clothes shops; open in January, closed by October.

Just ‘cos you really like something doesn’t mean you’ll be good at selling it.

@Eric,

Actually if you think about it, each steps is important. While we can generate traffic, it comes to naught if we have nothing to sell. And vice versa.

Each will be crucial to the success of your online businesses.

@ Jordans:

You don’t always have to ask for reciprocal link. You can always get 1 way links in without asking, by posting articles…signatures…submitting to directories and so on…

@ List:

Absolutely. Creating your OWN products is important. It can be others people’s product, but as long as the money reaches you first – I will call it my own product.

And what’s better than having the help of many big affiliate to promote for you? It’s a must do!

@ Lenen:

You can put “SEO/advertising” as under generating targeted traffic which I’ve listed.

@ TigerTom:

Yea. I think we have all seen a lot of such cases. It’s a big waste of time and money.

Thanks all for the comments!

@ Kimberly:

When we talk about products, it not necessarily has to be new as in totally ground-breakingly new.. But rather, it can be an improved version.

The most important thing is that it must have demand.

Great post Jag, the point you make about affiliates is an interesting one but I think it’s important to make sure you are making enough margin on your sales to be able to offer them a commission.

I know some industries, such as retail computing, have such slim margins (2-8%) that it makes it hard to offer a set commission.

What I love is that you’ve narrowed down the whole process to a few key points so it doesn’t feel scary or overwhelming anymore :)

@ Adwords management:

In the case of razor thin margin of 2-8%, then you are right to say that it’s isn’t really much point getting affiliates in, since it’s gonna reduce the margin even further.

Which begs this question as well – why even do such a business with such low margin?

The owner will have to rethink this business again.

I for one, will not do a business with less than 10% margin. It’s just too much work for too little returns.

Cheers,
Jag
