Niche Marketing – The Hot Spots Part 1

If you are into affiliate marketing or direct selling, targeting the right niche will make a huge difference to how much money you are going to make, and whether you will ultimately be profitable in the long run.

You have to play it smart when you are dabbling in niche marketing.

To keep it short, the first factor you must consider and perhaps one of the most important part of your niche marketing research is your …

Target Audience

Identifying the correct target audience is vital, as ideally, you want to be gunning for those whom you can sell to as easily as possible.

Without delving into too much fluff (or some people call it time-wasting filler content which I’m pretty good at), lets roll on and check out what type of money-splashing crowd we are taking about here:

1. The “How To” Crowd

This group of people are looking for a solution. They want to learn how to accomplish a certain task. It could be that they want to learn how to cook a perfect steak, or that they endeavor to please their spouse in bed or simply how to curry favor with the boss. It can be anything.

As long as they are looking for a “how to” solution, you have to be there to provide it. And they will BUY!

2. The “Hobbies” Crowd

Many people have hobbies and usually they are very willing to spend on it. Just look at stamp collection for instance.

This seemingly boring niche makes a lot of good easy money for people who sell these collectibles to stamp enthusiasts.

For a lot of them, the hobbies are their passion. When people are passionate about certain stuff, they do not hesitate to reach for their wallet to buy. The itchy cash is practically begging to come out from it.

If you need another example, what about turning our attention at “Transformers”? Yea, the show is coming out and I’m gonna catch it for sure. I’m a huge fan. And like me, there are many others around the world who are nostalgic about this silly robot cartoon.

With that said, you can bet your last dollar that there are lotsa avid “Transformer” fans who will spend wantonly on Transformer toys and memorabilia .

Can you sell a hobby related product?

Why not?

Will they buy?

Absolutely!

3. The “Desperate Hungry” Crowd

I’ve talk about this topic before.

Have you seen a desperate guy before?

I know what you are thinking.

It need not has to be always about SEX! What were you thinking man?!

But yea! He qualifies as a desperado!

OK! Quit fooling around. What about…

Desperate for a medical cure? (read: pharmaceutical, herbal, tonic, alternative medicine etc)

Desperate for a house? (read: real estate information etc)

Desperate to clear a debt? (read: debt consolidation, debt counseling etc)

Desperate for a wife? (read: dating, seduction, mail bride order etc)

Desperate to earn quick MONEY? (read: get rich and how to make money guide etc)

Hope you get the picture. When they are desperate, and you appear out of nowhere to offer them a solution and a cure, they will literally want to bite you hands off to get it. Well, you can give it to them (the solution, not your hand!)….but at a premium.

Don’t be surprised that they will be willing to pay top dollar for it. You should by the way.

4. The “Fearful and Embarrassed” Crowd

These people may have a condition that they are embarrassed about such as having a bad skin condition, or being impotent or that they are simply fat.

They fear mockery. They fear ridicule. They fear rejection. They fear the feeling of being inferior.

What if you appear before their eyes and offer a fix? To allow them to escape their misery and rid them of their embarrassing problems.

They will pay you, give you a hug and thank you for it! And you will walk away laughing to the bank.

Another great profitable crowd to aim for.

5. The “Instant Solution” Crowd

Let’s face it. We all love a quick fix. We all hate drudgery and tough work. We want the easy way out. If that is possible.

That is why we love softwares. We love scripts. We love autoresponder. Anything that can help us to automate our work. Allow us to be as hands off as possible. A solution that is simple and yet workable. And more importantly help us to save time.

Can you provide that? A quick instant solution to a problem?

*Shhhh…if you know a way to push-button instant riches, do tell me. I will buy the patent to it.* =)

Ok I think you get my point.

I shall stop here. Comments are welcome. In fact more than welcome. I look forward to that.

In my next post, I will talk about more highly profitable areas you can target in your niche marketing efforts. More to be revealed……

Till then, enjoy your weekend!

Agreed. Excellent article. I would surely like to blog about this today on my own blog and add some ideas of mine too. I did wrote something similar on smart pricing also and it was more or less focusing on this issue.

Hey, I have actually been thinking a lot about this topic lately as I am trying to decide which new products to go after for my ecommerce site. Any suggestions on simple (yes, that sort of means cheap, but also effective without being too complicated)market research? I do have a small customer base I could poll . . .

Hi Emily,

You looking for cheap and accessible stuff for the masses?

What about information products? Easy and cheap to product, with loads of information seekers out there.

I will probably talk more about places where you can do niche marketing research in one of my later posts.

Hi Random Rand,

Glad you like it!

Actually the niche target audience we are talking about is not only suitable for affiliate marketing, but also for selling your own goods to as well.

There are many great and also highly profitable niches out there. We just gotta find and mine it!
