I am totally thankful to you for giving this mindblowing information. I always fumble when it comes to making a catchy headline for almost all of my writings. This idea has given me a new approach of thinking and it will be of great help when writing cut lines and tag lines too. I came to this blog for reading your Getting to Grips on page seo articles and they are quite great on its own right. I think the issue of duplicate headings will not be a big deal for me any more. Thanks a bunch!

Mack

@Mack:

Great. When I first out about the “Digg headline” idea, I too was stumped. It’s a goldmine of ideas!

And you know it works because these are voted by the readers (with diggs).

It’s really a clean and fast way. Glad you found this useful!

Cheers,
Jag

To find your perfect headline.

Go to Amazon.com

On the drop down tab, select: Books

In the search box, write in there your subject of choice, for example…

Marketing.

Look at the book titles on the first 2 pages of the results.

Make a note of any repetitive words used in the book titles and the number of times these occur.

Now, start writing your own headlines using these power words.

Aim to write 100 headlines initially. The first 20 will be easy, after that, you might start to struggle a little bit. This is a very good exercise for you though.

When you have 100 headlines (at least) in front of you, choose the best one to work for your sales copy and make a note of the other headlines you prefer, which come in as your alternative top choices.

These other headlines, you can now adapt to use for your key benefit * bullet points.

Catchy headlines are beneficial to the blogger. It increases traffic as more people visit the site. Aside from the fact that increases traffic, headlines also state what the topic all about is.

Thanks for the info. It is of great help. There’s this headline I saw that has generated a lot of traffic as many people had been continuously visited the site. It was about how to become a freelancer or the amounts paid to freelancers. It sure paid off having a good headline as it easily catches the eyes of people who were supposed to spend just a few minutes of their time and ends up reading the whole thing.

I don’t like taking other people’s headlines. I would probably rearrange the words to form my own headline. You can also do that with content. However, I would want to add a few totally original sentences to the rearranged content.

And same to all of you readers!

@Jason:

Don’t worry. You don’t have to take the headline verbatim. Use it as for inspiration and adapt it to your own needs.
