Let me ask you a question. Do you like math and finance? If you do, you will love what I am going to introduce to you. If you don’t, you should still check this out anyway. Cos’ it’s good stuff! Plus it will come in handy for you in future. That, I’m pretty sure.

To me, a calculator is always a must have tool, not because my maths sux (I got an ‘A’ for my maths back in college! Don’t be fooled by my ramblings!), but because I’m simply not adept at mental calculation.

When it comes to finance, calculators can save you loads of time and help you look at the big picture. A picture that may be hazy and uncertain upon first sight, but is abundantly clear when everything is laid out bare on the table.

What exactly am I talking about?

Let me paint a scenario for you.

You have a wad of cash. You are contemplating whether to invest this sum of money or to pay off a loan. However there are many factors involved. To come to an informed decision, you need to consider factors such as the monthly loan payment, annual loan interest rate, loan balance, investment type, investment rate of return, loan interest deductibility and the tax rate, after which you will then have to weigh the odds, and determine which action will tip the scale towards your advantage.

Phew! Sounds complicated? Sure it does! I’m having a splitting headache already!

Do-able? Yes, you can with a spreadsheet, but you still have to input all the formulae yourself. Even when that is done, you will need to analyze and make sense of the result that comes out.

Now if I tell you, I can give you a resource site, in which all you need to do is simply to just key in the values and it will interpret the result for you, does it sound good?

It definitely does to me!

You know what? It feels like I’m writing a sales pitch for some products, but NO! This is a 100% free resource site that I stumble upon some time back. Absolutely useful and handy if you ask me, and I want to give you a heads up on it.

Introducing Hugh Chou’s Mortgage and Financial Calculators.

This guy is a GENIUS! He made a whole comprehensive list of financial calculators that can work out virtually everything (okay..almost) for you from home loan payment to retirement sums.

Here is a sneak peak of what calculators are available. There are even some non-finance tools that are quirky and fun to play around with!

Savings Comparison Calculator

Medical Savings Account Calculator

Effective Rate of Multiple Loan Calculator

Conventional Loan with Initial Only Payments Calculator

Interest Only vs Amortized Loan Comparison Calculator

Generic Loan Amortization Calculator

Income Qualification Calculator

Lease Calculator

Mortgage Duration Calculator

Investment Savings Comparison Calculator

Compounded Interest Calculator

Nominal and Effective Interest Rate Calculator

Wealth Calculator

Gas Guzzling Calculator

Password Generator

MathSolver

Break the Starbucks Habit Calculator

Save a Fortune by not Smoking Calculator

I can honestly tell you that I was so impressed with the calculators that I even emailed Hugh to discuss the possibility of purchasing the calculator scripts for a finance site that I’ll be coming out with.

This is truly a good useful resource site, to not only help you calculate your finances, but also allows you to understand how the whole financial number crunching computation works and what it means. First rate financial resource in my view!

You absolutely have to check this out!

Don’t worry I’m not going to sell you anything. So put your itchy wallet away. I just want to give you a heads up on an amazing resource site I came across.

I’ve been to number of free giveaway sites, and it is fair to say that a lot of them are filled with junk and thrash. Simply put – a waste of time!

While surfing around aimlessly the other day, I stumbled upon yet another giveaway site. I was skeptical at first, but nevertheless, I decided to check it out.

And boy am I glad I did. This is definitely the real deal. The site I’m talking about here is Giveaway of The Day. Basically this site offers FREE softwares for give away. It’s not your thrashy kind nor are the products just merely trial versions. These are licensed and fully functional softwares that are useful and handy. They are available for download for a day (hence the name), but quite often, this period stretches longer than that (only when the publishers are agreeable).

A quick check reveals that there are many kinds of softwares available for download and use, catering to different areas. The softwares are categorized namely as Audio & Video, Business, Communications, Design & Photo, Desktop Enhancements, Developer Tools, Education, Games, Home & Hobby, Internet, Security & Privacy, Servers, Utilities & Drivers and Web Developer Tools.

These softwares are further tagged for easy finding and organization.

Well, by now, you will know that I’m into Business, Finance and Internet Marketing, so you can say that I was kinda excited when I found out that there are a few softwares that look mighty interesting to me with regards to these three areas.

I will just pick a few on what I found on the site:

Business

DRoster – Employee Scheduling and management

Easy Projects .NET Personal Edition – Project management

Easy Time Tracking – Project management

Auction Business Manager

Bifrost Inventory Management

Finance

Personal Finance Center

Debt Eliminator Loan calculator

ForexGen Trading Station

Personal Stock Streamer

Quotes Manager

Internet Marketing

Article Submission

Blogging software

PDF converter

E-book compiler

Sitepromoter – Search engine submission

What I’ve mentioned are probably the just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more cool and useful softwares listed. I’m pretty sure, in fact, very positive that you will find something that will be of use to you. I certainly hope you find my recommendation useful! Have fun rummaging through the list and happy downloading!

Give Away of The Day

Update:

I’ve added a Giveaway of the Day ticker at my sidebar (scroll down to the end). With that you can check out what’s the latest giveaway product of the day when you come to my site. Please note I don’t stand to gain from this monetarily. I’m just doing my bit to spread the word about this site simply because this is a great site.

Investing has always been an interest of mine. My investment journey started 2 years back when it dawned on me that I should be making my money in my savings work harder for me, instead of just leaving it there to gather dust.

The interest rate the bank was giving me then was really pathetically puny (and it still is). But what to do? It is supposedly risk free (but not entirely. If the bank is to go bust, your savings go down with it). Therefore to compensate for the near zero risk, I’ll have to live with a low interest rate. Nothing I can really complain about.

Having enough of this, I embarked on a arduous journey where I locked myself in a dark cold room, determined not to come out until I mastered the art of investment. Years of sleepless night spent peering at investment sites and resources, as well as doing virtual and real trading has gone by, and I’m proud to announce that as of today, I’m still nowhere near ‘master yoda’ stage……YET.

It’s okay. No worries, I will reach there one day. Warren Buffett and George Soros, please watch your back!

Enough of this crap talk.

Anyway I’m a believer of integrating technical analysis into my investment methodology (with fundamental analysis). Technical analysis, in a nutshell, is the utilization and study of charting patterns and price movement from a stock chart, to make a calculated guess on how the stock price will move in future.

Technical analysis is no crystal ball or some magic technique. Understanding investor psychology is a hugely important aspect in the art of investment.

Technical analysis allows us to study the herd mentality, popular crowd sentiments and it’s emotional influence on the stock market through the analysis of the chart. With technical analysis, we can easily see the supply-demand picture.

To get into some serious technical analysis action, a good charting software is essential for starting off. Many of my online brokerages come with charting features, but none really met my expectations.

Chartnexus is one charting software that really blew me away. I’ve been using it since its birth and I got to say that it is a fantastic charting software that is everything I ask for.

It is intuitive, appealing to the eye, and very importantly, simple and easy to use. For example, Price and volume analysis is a rather important part of my technical interpretation of a stock price movement. The color coded volume bar makes my task my so much easier when it comes to recognizing distribution and accumulation of shares.

The stock selection bar is rather idiot proof, and it makes the selection of a stock or index for analysis a breeze. I’ve got no problem tracking my favourite stock.

As with many other charting softwares, there are many common indicators such as Bollinger Band, Moving Averages and MACD built in. In addition, there are also indicators that I’ve never ever heard before, of one which is the fancy sounding ‘Ichimoku Kinko Hyo’. Hmmm…what the hell is that?

Chartnexus also enables me to do my own drawing on the charts, as well as recording of notes, and these features help me tremendously in my analysis.

There are much more features I can list, but I guess it is best for you to download and try it out for yourself. I’ve to say that their paid add-on XpertTrader candlestick modules look great as well, but I did not subscribe to it as I don’t really trade. I’m more of a long term investor.

Before I forget, this software not only allows me to analyse the Singapore market but also Bursa Malaysia and the various US markets (AMEX, Nasdaq and NYSE). It’s really wonderful!

Oh yes one more thing, their support is very friendly and open. Kudos to them!

I shall leave you with some saved chart analyses I did some time back.
