You heard about some guy who achieved success overnight? Yes, he took many years to get there! When it comes to online profits, there is no such thing as overnight success.

Either you have a lot of prior experience or you tried and failed so many times then you finally succeed.

Right now, we shall discuss about how it is also possible that you can also snowball your profits over time. See it as compounding interest in your bank, only much faster!

Seed – Time – Harvest

This is definitely true for any kind of business. You do need to plan the seeds, take some time for growth before you reap your harvest. Enough of my long introduction, here is how you can start to snowball your profits by building your success just like compounding interest.

Traffic + Conversion = Profits

PPC Traffic Optimization

Since everyone wants more traffic, this is what I will cover first! Optimize your pay per click traffic so that you can get more targeted traffic from your efforts. First you want to optimize your click through rates to ensure that you get the most out of your ads.

Make full use of the content network since there is so much more cheaper traffic you can get from there compared to search network. The conversions might not be fantastic, however, the lower cost will make up for it. By the way, content network is great for lead generation!

Article Traffic Optimization

If you are writing articles and submitting them to EzineArticles, you want to maximize your articles by making them more SEO friendly so that you can get more traffic to your articles. Also, keep testing your resource box to get maximum number of clicks. More clicks means more traffic.

For more kick-butt ideas on article marketing, check out this Ultimate Content Syndication Strategy.

Conversion Optimization

What the heck is conversion optimization? In short, it is about squeezing every drop out of the lemon or orange if you prefer something sweeter. What I mean is continued improvement of conversion rates through testing and tracking. I know this is nothing new, you have heard it time and again.

In reality, this is the non-sexy element of all highly profitable businesses! You need to test your landing pages to get the maximum number of leads and you need to test your sales pages to get the maximum number of sales. Remember to also test your upsell pages if you have them.

Google Website Optimizer And Google Analytics

The Best Things In Life Are FREE – The Beatles

That line came from a song by the Beatles. In this case, we must agree with them, Google Website Optimizer and Google Analytics are free and they are more effective than most other paid tools, so use it. It also happens to be very easy to use and you can find many free tutorials too.

With Google Website Optimizer you can easily do multi-variable testing or split testing and it is so easy to use. With Google Analytics, you can track you traffic sources and long list of other data. All you need to do is to paste a small piece of code on your website to use them.

Testing

You need to test your headlines, your opening, your guarantee, your offer and your call to action. If you really have no time to do all that, just test 3 totally different headlines. After all, the headlines affect your response the most, compared to most other elements.

Following Up

1 of the best ways to improve your conversion rates and get more sales is to follow up with email, which is why I always emphasize so strongly on list building. If you do not have a list, you have nobody to follow up with. I recommend using AWeber to do that.

List Building

List Building = Making Money Now = Making Money Later

I used to think that building a list will slow down my sales because less people will get to see my sales page. However, even though less people get to see the sales page, these people are more targeted and because of email marketing, they get to see it more often which increases my sales conversions.

If you want to make money now while you are building your list, put a relevant offer on thank you page. It does not have to be your own product, it can be a presell page for an affiliate offer where you as an affiliate will get paid for sales.

Following up the same offer using emails will help you convert more leads into buyers. If they still did not buy, you can send them other offers. Think of it this way, if they buy your product, you make money, if they buy other products through your affiliate link, you still make money, right?

Email Marketing

Just to share my personal experience. I am in a particular market where I have my own products and I rarely promote affiliate offers. Then someone asked me to promote his offer, I asked for a reciprocal mailing. So we did a mail swap and I got a lot of new leads from this guy!

On top of that, I sold quite a number of his products (much more than I expected) considering that my list was much smaller than his list and guess what? His product is on recurring payments! Moral of the story, promoting products as an affiliate using email marketing is great way to boost your income.

Conclusion

You can see how it is possible to snowball your profits like compounding interest. This is much better than starting all over again every single day. You start by optimizing your traffic, then you optimize your conversions through on-going testing, tracking and follow ups.

So much so that many marketers, especially newbies, are immobilized by the sheer volume of information that is shoved forcefully into their already pitiful brain. Choke filled with information that they can’t absorb.

Then what happens?

Because of this “analysis paralysis”, they don’t take action. They don’t implement. All they care is finding out more information to feed their “need-to-know-more” desire.

But the “knowledge” they have gained amounts to nothing. When there is no execution.

Worse yet – instead of clarity – sometimes it leads to more confusion. And more clutter.

You find that familiar?

So today – I’m going to break down the process of marketing into simplified terms. However make no mistakes about it.

When I say “simple”, it doesn’t mean online marketing is simple. And it easy to get rich quick (which I think full of B.S!).

Far from it. Plenty of smart…AND…hard work are required. Especially at the start.

So if anyone tells you it is easy and you hardly need to lift a finger – do him and yourself a favor…give him a smack to wake him up!

Alright. Enough of the talk. Without further ado, let me present to you my…

4 Step Marketing Workflow

So you may look at the chart and think what the heck does this mean?

Let me explain…

First off, move your attention to the right side of the chart.

Selling online can be equated to the following formula:

Sales = Traffic x Conversions.

If you have 100 visitors, and 1% conversion, you have 1 sales.

If you have 100 visitors, and 10% conversion, you have 10 sales.

If you have 200 visitors and 10% conversion, you got 20 sales.

If you have 200 visitors and 20% conversion, you have 40 sales!

Make sense?

I’ve explained this concept before in my one of my previous entries, so you may already be familiar with it.

If not, this example should make it crystal clear.

Now from this example, it’s pretty easy to see one thing.

To increase your sales, you either increase your traffic…or your conversion…or both!

So do both!

Let’s now move on to the left side of the chart, as we go drill down deeper.

I will explain this left portion in 4 parts:

1. Targeted Traffic

Not every traffic is created equal.

Traffic from different sources will give you different results.

What you want to be looking for is quality traffic. Targeted traffic. Prospects that are looking to buy. Prospects that are relevant to your offer.

There are many sources of traffic you could use. Like articles, videos, social networks, social bookmarking and so on…

For me…I always prefer traffic that can come in fast…that are targeted…and I can have full control over.

You usually have to pay for such traffic.

When it comes to that…no paid traffic comes better than those from Google Adwords.

With Google Adwords, you have control…power…flexibility. It’s accountable…trackable…and measurable. I love Google Adwords.

2. Copywriting

Let me saying 1 thing…

Targeted Traffic Is Not Everything!

Why?

Because the traffic won’t convert if your sales page sucks!

That’s why I tell my clients. I help them to bring targeted traffic to their web page with Google Adwords.

But if the sales page is poorly crafted…doesn’t bring out the benefits well…doesn’t adequately trigger the buying emotion of the prospects…then you will just be throwing money down the drain.

So you need a good sales copy. You want higher conversions? Then constantly seek to improve your sales copy.

And it doesn’t end there.

3. Email Marketing

You want to be capturing leads. Most people won’t buy. If you got a 5% conversion…you are doing EXTREMELY well.

What about the rest of the 95% traffic that don’t buy? Are you going to let them go? Without even knowing who they are?

They may not buy now…but does that mean they won’t buy in future?

Capturing your prospects details and following up with them is absolutely crucial to your business.

Email marketing is the best way to build up your list. The list is your most valuable business asset.

As the proverbial saying goes – “The money is in the goddammmmm LIST!”

Very true. Indeed.

4. Testing, Tracking & Optimization

Jay Abraham, the marketing grand-daddy of grand-daddies, wisely says, “The only risk you can take is an inexpensive test”.

Test what you may ask?

All your sales variables!

You can be testing…

Traffic sources

Headlines (sales copy)

Offer (sales copy)

Benefits (sales copy)

Guarantee (sales copy)

Postscript (sales copy)

Bonuses (sales copy)

Keywords (Google Adwords)

Ad Copy (Google Adwords)

Site placement (Google Adwords)…

Tons of things you can test!

We test because we do not know for sure what works until we validate it.

And only with testing, can you know what is working well. And that allows you to work on that winning (control) element to give you better results.

Optimization helps put more money into your account.

When you know what doesn’t works for you…you take it out.

That saves you money. You don’t waste money on ads that don’t work.

Testing is crucial. And you need to be tracking the results.

When you get the results, you start optimizing based on it.

It’s the constant pursuit of perfection.

While you will NEVER be perfect…you can still strive to reach perfection. It’s the process of constant improvement that will take your business to a higher level.

Alright. I hope these make sense to you. Concentrate on these areas and you will do well. Guaranteed!

As usual, let me know your thoughts.

All success,

Today, let’s delve deeper on actions we can take on the journey to online marketing success.

Again, we want to keep on the premise that success can come in simple and actionable steps.

Nothing complicated. Just a cycle that we have to keep doing…keep optimizing and…keep going.

This online marketing success cycle I’m going to show you today will lay out the path clearly for you. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Just do it.

By the way, this cycle is not devised by me. Been used with great effect by many successful online businesses. So you know it works. And it was first pointed out to me by one of the best marketers I know – Paul Myers of TalkBizNews.

So here goes:

1. Sell Products

Most obvious start. You don’t make money by selling air. So you create on product that has a demand and meets a need or is a solution to a problem – and sell it. Then money will flow in.

2. Generate Subscribers

You wanna keep a list of prospects and customers. For those that don’t buy the first time round, you can follow up with them and sell them again. And you can sell them alternatives product. Importantly, build a relationship with them.

For those that bought from you before, they can buy again. So keep working with them.

3. Recruit Active Affiliates

The best salesman don’t do everything himself. He gets others to sell for him…to spread the word for him. So we are talking about leverage and scalability here. It will help kick-start your profits to another level.

4. Generated Targeted Traffic

Get in front of people who actually want your product. People who are actually relevant. You will get higher conversion, and your sales process will be more effective and efficient.

5. Generate Links

You need to generate link to form pathways for traffic to come to you. More pathways to your site = more presence = more traffic = more potential profit!

6. Create Products

Keep creating products for a wider audience. More products out there, and more chances for you to increase your revenue.

7. Build Network

You want to own your network. You don’t want to be sorely dependent on a single source of incoming traffic. You want a big network…of various branches and channels, where there are people that knows you and your products.

8. Go Back To Point 1

Rinse and repeat!

That’s all there is to it. Not that difficult after all right?

Your comments are welcome.

Just as simplicity in trading stocks work, it does also when it comes to marketing online. Or even offline for that matter.

So here are some simple rules I’m gonna lay down for you.

If you wanna win in the market, then concentrate on having…

More products (and higher priced ones)

More prospects, customers & affiliates (or distributors)

More copywriting (or sales pitching)

More JV Managers (Help you recruit more affiliates/distributors)

Hey’ it ain’t that difficult isn’t it?

Simple plan and it will work – provided you get to WORK – NOW!.

In today’s marketing world, it is more important than ever to reach out effectively to your customer.

To do so, the keyword to focus here is on “relevance“.

It’s no longer just about having the best product or services. It’s also a lot about giving YOUR customer what he WANTS.

What he wants to know…hear…see…feel…taste…smell…, you wanna give it to him. And your eventual profits will thank you for it. Heck, he probably will himself too!

Precisely because of this, we have to appreciate just how important customer segmentation is to your business.

Customer segmentation is critical as it help you provide a better user experience and definitely a better conversion rate. Because you are reaching out to a targeted audience group.

Depending on how you do your segmentation and the areas you target, it can provide you a valuable insight on what your customer base is like. Such as knowing exactly:

What your customers are buying?…

Your customers’ preferences…

Who are your most profitable customers?…

Who are your least profitable customers?…

The demographics of your user/customer base…

When you speak your customers’ language, and recognize their needs in a way that makes sense to them, you can look forward to a very fulfilling business journey.

I will leave you with an example of how Motley Fool (fool.com) does their member segmentation when visitors sign up to their site.

Step 1 (Keying in of email address)

No name field

Single opt in

Step 2 (Keying in preferences, trading habits, and address)

Very good segmentation process.

Does this gives you a better idea of customer profiling already? Hope this triggers more ideas for you on how to better segment your target audience.

As always, I wanna know what YOU think. Shoot them all!

All too often, when a new business idea pops up, we usually do several of these:

1. Plan…

2. And plan…

3. And plan some more…

But we don’t execute.

Because there is still not enough planning!

Or we might plan, and do, and refine. And refine further, wanting to be perfect each time. But then you find, to your dismay, it is still not there yet. And you keep going on…anyway…

Just one thing. The idea never come into fruition because you don’t launch and start selling it!

Sounds familiar?

You know, if you analyze most of the successful products you see out there, 99% of the time, they are not the final version when it was first launched.

They were improved upon feedbacks along the way, and they slowly evolved to winning products that the users love.

I think for a lot of us, me included, we must inculcate in ourselves one simple yet important mind-set, that is to – launch and then tweak.

We have to suppress our sometimes insatiable desire to be perfect all the time.

Truth is – sometimes – we don’t know if the idea works. Or if it’s really what the audience wants…UNTIL we sell it.

The audience will give the best feedback.
‘Cos they vote by their wallets. You can then tweak and refine from there.

Speed is of the essence. Money loves speed!

The moment you come out with a product, take it..and sell it!

If not, the longer you take, the more expenses you will chalk up. And what about opportunity costs?

Focus more of your time on sales and marketing.

Yes, keep the development going to ensure the product will be of the highest quality possible. But NEVER forget the sales and marketing. It will have to take precedence.

Now I want you to repeat after me…

Money loves speed. Launch then tweak….Money loves speed. Launch then tweak…Money loves speed. Launch the tweak…

When you are quick enough with your launch, decisive enough with the sales and marketing strategy, add together with a reasonably good
product that provide above average value, the money will come.

And it won’t be a question of when the money will come. But how much…

I think these are the under-emphasized points in business.

Once again, let me know what are your thoughts on this. I love to hear them.

All Success,

Ironic as it sounds, it can be – provided you know how to do it right.

I have to confess this apply more effectively towards the informational marketing niche. More specifically digital informational products.

You see. In the digital informational product arena, almost everything gets pirated. It is the reality of the game you have to face up to.

Everything can be downloaded and distributed, whether you like it or not.

E-books. Mp3. Graphics. Videos. Games. All can be easily ripped off.

With the explosion of file sharing sites and peer-to-peer network (P2P), it is only a matter of time before you find your product up there within those ranks too.

So How Do We Solve This Darn Problem?

Well…as they say, if you can’t win ‘em…join ‘em!

Wait up! I’m not talking about being a pirate yourself, silly. But about how to turn it around – to your advantage!

Think about it.

There are millions of free-loaders and pirates wanting your product for FREE! Just check out the tonnes of traffic file sharing or torrent sites like Warez and PirateBay receive.

What does this mean?

There is a big ready audience for you out there! And if they download your product, chances are they are very targeted!

And because they come to your product, instead of YOU…going to them, they are much more qualified. They actually want your product, goddamn it!

If your product gives them sufficient value, you can easily sell to them later!

Can you see the various profitable possibilities forming already?

This is what you can do:

1. Have an opt in form in your e-book product or include a read-me text that gives them a link to your opt in form. Tie that in with an incentive.

Just do anything to allow those ‘thieves’ to see your incentivized offer, and get their names. Now you actually know who these people are once you capture their names.

Congratulations. You have just leveraged on the pirates to build your list.

Can you sell to them again? Yes you can. Go ahead. Up-sell and cross-sell these suckers! Tie in with one-time offers and all those marketing gimmicks you can think of. It’s payback time!

2. Include affiliate links in your product. If they don’t want your product, there is always a chance they may click on your affiliate link. And you can profit from that.

Pretty neat eh?

3. Gather all your freebie stuff you already plan to give away. Go distribute to all the file sharing and torrent sites. Just google them if you don’t know any.

And incorporate the 2 techniques above.

Better still, make your stuff re-brandable with their affiliate links, and you just give them an incentive to distribute the product for you.

There you go. You can unleash a viral campaign – with the help of pirates! Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Okay. What you waiting for? Let’s get cracking!

This is just another way to turn something disadvantageous around to your favor.

As always, I love to hear your views on this. I’m all ears.

All Success,

I actually typed out a whole long entry for this. But I wiped them off on second thoughts. Too long-winded.

So now, I’m just going to go in to the meat. Straight to the point.

In the last entry, I talked about an encounter with a cab driver in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, during our holiday there. And how we persuaded him to lower his cab fare.

Got some nice comments and email feedbacks. I thank you folks for that – from the bottom of my heart!

Today, I want to talk about something else. I want to talk about a trip to a store (a chocolate boutique) during the same trip in KL, whereby we went in empty handed, but came out….you guessed it…FULL of products!

Why?

1. Personal Attention

The shop assigned a staff to us. Specially for us.

He tended to us, catered to our questions. Brought us around. Let us try various chocolate samples. Even letting us try more on our request. Carried our basket as well.

And finally also completed the payment for us.

Fantastic service!

2. Great Product

Their chocolates tasted heavenly! The durian chocs was the one that REALLY got us hooked.

My my…

Absolutely sinfully…….GOOOOOOOOOD!

Your sales can be good, but if your product sucks – the business fails all the same. The chocolates got my ‘quality’ checkbox ticked! E-MoneyMarketing seal of approval, if you will!

3. Up-sell

Initially, we weren’t too keen on buying the chocolates. But when the sales person got us hooked on the durian chocolate, the floodgates just opened.

Like a torrent of gushing water breaking past a dam!

Whatever that person recommends, we just bought.

What does this show?

When you get a person to commit on an initial sale, you can then easily up-sell him again…and again…and again.

One simple first product sale + up-sell + follow = DRAMATIC increase in profits!

FOLLOW UP! Always do!

4. Good distribution channel

A good quality product deserves good sales and distribution channels. You need awareness and exposure to let other knows your product actually exists and of course, the value it brings.

The taxi driver I mentioned earlier was obviously an affiliate of the chocolate boutique. He got a commission from the products we bought. And that incentive alone got him to bring us to the store.

Even though we did not request him to.

Very cunning. But that’s how marketing should be done.

[tags]distribution channels,sales, chocolate store, e-moneymarketing, marketing, business[/tags]
