Have you ever met someone who is just simply closed to all ideas and suggestions?

And one who cast a wary eye on just about anyone and everyone, maybe even his grandmother?

Actually, if you notice more closely…

You will notice one thing…

Most of these people usually exhibit this body language..

They Have Their Arms Folded!

Aha!

Arms folded. And their mind are also folded too.

If you unlock their arms, you unlock their mind.

Now…just how to unfold their arms?

Let me narrate to you a story…

I was having a meeting the other day at a company together with my colleagues and their management. We were presenting a collaboration plan.

A senior guy from the company just came in halfway to listen in for a while.

He had his arms folded – a sure tell-tale sign of skepticism and maybe to display his authority.

That caught my eye. Luckily, we had a hard copy of our presentation nearby, and I immediately grab it and went up to him. And presented to him with both my hands.

“Why don’t you take a look? Here’s a hard copy for your reference,” I said…

What Happened Next…

You guessed it! His arms unfolded…to take the paper from me – with both his hands!

And there he was…studying the paper.

Bingo!

Magically, his mind became more receptive to our talk. He looked more interested. Possibly even flattered that we took the effort to give him something which he could look at.

He went off after a while.  And the signs were positive.

There you go!

See how easy it is?

To observe the whole process, from start of action to results – it is just absolutely amazing!

Give him something which he has to hold with two hands. And watch how his mind becomes more open.

Simple. And effective.

The next time you see a hot sexy babe, looking ‘untouchable’ with her arm crossed., with negative body language…you know what to do…

Last Thursday, I had the honor and privilege of meeting Joel Christopher in person.

Here was this guy – a well established online marketer who is up there with the very best – standing right next to me.

My impression of him? Very warm. Very unassuming. Very down-to-earth.

He is a guru alright. He built his name on being a list-building expert. But he is not like other typical gurus. He really comes across as very real and genuine that takes interest in the person he is talking to.

Did I mention that his assistant, Mimi, is such a lovely lady too?

I met up with Samuel, Alvin and Martin, some marketers I’ve got to know recently in a mastermind group.

Had a good chat together with Joel together with the rest of the gang.

Also had a chance to talk to Ian Del Carmen, an online marketer who is also a Warrior from the Philippines. Really friendly dude.

Alright the time is high for an update. It’s been 11 whooping days since I last updated my blog. The longest break interval ever since I started this blog.

Not that I’ve been lazy, just that I’ve been too busy with the setting up of a online marketing consultancy business with my partner. So many administrative issues to be settled.

The good thing is that the office and phone lines have been settled. Everything have gone without a hitch.

Met some clients who are proposing partnerships. Gotta see how it goes.

Now the difficult bit – getting content on the site. Doing up the forum and the blog. Lotsa stuffs to be done!

For sure, the direction of this blog will have to change. Most of my Internet Marketing articles will now go towards our new company’s corporate blog.

You can expect more and better informative articles. It is a good thing that my partner is pretty experienced in web development and marketing. He has handled government projects before and certainly, his contributions to the content will certainly gonna be vitally useful.

The direction of this blog will now be mainly towards business and finance in general. Mostly, investment – my first love! One which has unfortunately have to take a backseat when Internet Marketing came into the picture.

I will still write articles on Internet Marketing though, but it will be more of a preview teaser which will lead back to my company’s blog.

Exciting and yet very challenging times ahead. There will be opportunities of joint ventures and tie ups. I expect that the journey will not be smooth sailing, but it will sure be a heck of a ride.

Before I go, I just like to thank all the folks who have been dropping by my site even though I’ve not been updating regularly.

Actually I do feel kind of bad that you guys took the time to come down, and yet have nothing new to read. Have also been getting some comments during this period on my blog which are nice to see and read. Thanks all! You know who you are!

This period of blog inactivity makes me realized that how just how important the frequency of content update is to traffic generation. For sure, the more you blog, the more likely you will get much higher visitor hits.

Feels a bit shitty to see my visitor statistics dropping because of the lack of updates. My Alexa ranking has taken a direct hit too. Initially, it was rising rapidly but went down due to my blog URL’s change and now it has taken another blow.

I guess it can’t be helped. As much as I love to blog, I gotta prioritize. Work pays the bills. Blogging does too, but not as much.

Ok I need to catch up on some beauty sleep after a long day. Just a reminder – the blog is still alive. I will still update, so do come back from time to time, yea?

I have not been blogging as I was away on a holiday. Now that I’m back, there is this sickening pile of work facing me. Argh!

Well, I guess I just got to grind through and bear with it. What’s life without work anyway? Utterly boring that is!

Anyway I’ve been tagged by Robin of FortuneWatch.com to participate in this meme, so here I am!

Actually I don’t really wanna bore you out with 8 facts about myself, but I need to do what’s gotta be done! So, do bare with me…!

• My idol is the late martial arts legend, Bruce Lee. Yes, I was a big Kung Fu fan when I was young. I even fashioned a nunchaku, Bruce Lee’s signature weapon, out of paper rolls and twirled and swirled it like a crazed madman!

• I ranked in the 27th percentile in a stock competition that I took part last year even though I only use 40% of the given budget. Till today, I still monitor the virtual portfolio, and presently my returns are in excess of 30%. Damn! Why didn’t I buy it in real life??

• I’m in the process of setting up my first registered business venture. More to be revealed in due time.

• I’m Chinese and my partner is Malay. I wonder if the racial harmony campaign needs any new poster boys? Singapore is multi-racial in its set up, while my partnership is likewise. Great fit! I just want to add that race is irrelevant anyway. It is the ability, attitude and trust-worthiness that matter to me more than anything else.

• I studied Applied Chemistry in university. What I’m doing today though has totally no relevance at all to what I studied. Luckily I quit my honors year to save myself 1 year of school fees (which are not cheap!).

• Argentina is my favorite soccer national team. Club-wise, I root for Newcastle United, which I predict will win the premier league next year, and the European Cup the year after. Talk about optimism!

• I’m a night owl. I sleep very late at night. Or rather in the morning to be more precise.

• I’m falling asleep as I’m writing this. Time to go to bed!

• I used to represent my company during my army days in cross-country competitions. I can only look back and wonder where has all my fitness gone to? Work (or laziness) has definitely taken its toll.

Hope I’ve not bored the tears out of you!

Anyway, I discovered that I’ve given 9 facts, 1 more than required. That is overdelivering, a fundamental concept of all businesses!

I just got a double combo tags by the cool dudes from FortuneWatch and SmartWealthyRich to participate in this meme about the topic you see from this title.

So the million dollar question:

“Why Do I Blog?”

To be honest, I’ve never been into this whole blogging thing. Even when the blogging phenomenon was sweeping through the whole globe, where grandmas are also getting into the act, I was rather indifferent. I guess it reached a point where, if you can’t beat ‘em, you join ‘em.

Okay, here are my exact reasons:

1. To publish my thoughts, views, and present worthy information which are of value to the readers. Previously, I did content management with a finance website (still doing now actually, but more on the editorial and Internet marketing aspects), and I had the chance to publish my writings online. Without that platform, I really had no way to do so.

However with a blog, just about everyone has the power to publish his or her writings, easily and quickly, with a minimum of fuss.

2. To network and make new friends. I like to think that since I started blogging, I managed to make new friends. Not only with those in my country (Singapore), but also folks from other corners of the Earth. Amazing isn’t it?

Blogs have made the world a smaller and more friendly place. It enables many like-minded people to come together and exchange pointers. Friendship are forged. Partnership are made. Possibly a million dollar deal in the making waiting for me in future too. That is the beauty of a humble blog. It is so simple, yet so powerful.

3. To learn. I’ve to say I have learnt loads from many fellow bloggers. It is just wonderful and a refreshing experience to read the various diverse perspectives and viewpoints of everyone.

4. To help others. As mentioned above, I’ve learned loads from other people, so it is only natural that I should try to help others learn as well. I may not be the most knowledgeable guy in the world, but if someone has learnt something from some of the stuff I wrote here, I’m happy.

I always believe in this – to receive, you have to learn to first give.

5. Good chance to know pretty babes!

Nowadays there are so many pretty bloggers out there. If you have a good blog, maybe they might take a fancy to you. Hehhh.

I’m in the mood yet again. Nooo no, not that kind of mood, you naughty!

Yep, I’m in the mood to give some link loves to blogs that offer great worthy content, which also give me the good vibes.

Previously I featured some excellent blogs such as FortuneWatch, SmartWealthyRich and HenryGold

Today we shall talk about 2 blogs and 1 website.

1. Urban Monk

I was tagged by my friend, Robin, of FortuneWatch to take part in this charity campaign. Since it is for a good cause, I was thinking why not?

Actually I didn’t quite follow the campaign guidelines cos of the lack of time (I need to condense everything), but well, I hope I have already done my part.

Basically, I’m supposed to come out with a post stating that my blog is closing down (hate to think about it if it really happens!), ala a blog apocalypse.

I’ve to then write about what I will do if there is no more blogging for me. This whole exercise is meant to be a win-win situation for everyone involves, where the Urban Monk will donate $500 or more to charity depending on the amount of backlinks he received back, while I get some link love back of my own.

So far this exercise has garnered much response, and honestly, I’m not surprised. Everyone benefits, and the fact that this is done for a good cause makes it even better.

So what will I do if I were to really stop blogging? Well, I’ll be pouring my effort into other sites and projects of mine then (have a number in the works and I wonder if I can cope..). Having said that, I definitely want to keep this blog alive and provide useful informative article to readers here.

2. Court’s blog

To be honest, I have never heard of this blog and Court, until one fine day, when he left a comment on my copywriting article. Being the curious kid that I am, I went to his site, and well well, this is a good blog packed with useful information on Internet Marketing and Personal Development!

Though Court’s blog is new, already, I’m impressed by the content. I especially like his post about 102 ways to get backlinks. I will like to think that this entry complements my post on ways to leverage on social media pretty well. Check it out!

3. Free Hugs

I can tell you, this site is amazing. Just heart warming, inspirational and touching. The free hug movement is inspired by this dude, Juan Mann, who went back to his hometown in Sydney, with nothing, lonely, and no one to turn to. All around him were people feeling happy and smiling, while he was there by himself, wanting to feel a bit of love.

So what did he do next? Instead of waiting for love, he went around on a free hug campaign to give some of the love back to people on the streets. At first people were skeptical, but slowly the people around warmed up, and soon, it became a phenomenon. Everyone’s hugging each other, spreading the joys and warmth. Now, how touching can that be?

I wonder if there is a free hug movement in Singapore.

Yes, you heard me right. This is a serious matter. If you have not back up your work or data for some time, or god forbid, not at all, please do it NOW!

I’m a firm believer in the importance of backing up. Why? Cos’ past experiences tell me so!

I actually have friends who tell me that they don’t bother backing up. Their rationale, or should I say, excuse, is that they won’t be so unlucky to meet with a database or computer failure. One even told me that he don’t believe in backing up! Yikes!

Let me tell you flat out, in all honesty, if you are one of those that have never ever back up your stuffs before, you are an ACCIDENT waiting to happen. When the fateful day comes, you will be crying, swearing and cursing that you are so unlucky. Sorry, but you cannot blame anyone but yourself. So don’t take any chances. Buy a portable hard disk to back up your work or stand the risk of losing everything!

Let me recount some of my experiences with you to highlight the importance of backing up.

In the first instance, while working on the content of my friend’s finance site, there were some problems that occurred which wiped out 2 weeks worth of data. You may think 2 weeks mean nothing, but I update the site daily with new information, therefore it meant a hell lot to me.

Unfortunately there was no backup, and I had to labor through the whole day to restore everything. I wasn’t involved in technical and backend matters then, so I just had to grind my teeth and trudge on. Nothing I could do about it in this matter, other than being more convinced that ever of the fact that one will be royally screwed if he doesn’t back up regularly.

In the second instance, my laptop suddenly gave me the dreaded ‘blue screen of death’! The next thing I knew, my hard disk was gone! Kaput! No warning at all. At that time, I had everything in the laptop that was valuable to me. My lab reports, my investment documents, my pictures, my music files, my hard WORK!

Luckily, I bought a portable hard disk not long before that, and have been implementing a regular back up practice, hence I wasn’t adversely affected, other than the inconvenience of bringing my laptop to the computer center for reinstallation.

In the last case, this very site you are seeing now just decided to go crazy on me. Yes, I don’t know why but my WordPress database got deleted, and I couldn’t access my site at all! A check with my cPanel revealed that the database was gone, and I had no clue how it happened!

Again, very very luckily for me, I had the very useful and handy WP Backup plugin with Cron installed, which enabled scheduled regular backup, which will then be automatically sent to my mail. Easy peasy. No fuss. No hassle. No fiddling with MySQL and phpAdmin. All on automation mode. At that time, I scheduled the backup to be done every week, and it so happened that the database failure occurred one day after the scheduled back up, therefore I only lost 1 day of work. Really have to thank my lucky stars.

Since then, I up the backup frequency to be done on a daily basis. Overkill? Not at all. Given that I do update this site frequently, I’m not going to take any chances.

I’ve talked pretty much, but lets recap again shall we?

• Backup regularly – it’s a form of insurance. Shit happens, so don’t be an accident waiting to happen.
• Invest in a portable hard disk with disk space of at least 80GB, so that you can have many copies of backup.
• If you are using WordPress, do make use of the WP Backup plugin with Cron enabled to automate your backing up process.
• Alternatively, you can logged into your cPanel and set a Cron job to backup the database with phpAdmin.
• Get a FTP client like SmartFTP to download and backup your important files.

Backing up pays! Speaking about that, I have not backup yet! HELPPPPPPP…

Ever been in situation when you thought that all hope is gone? That there is nothing meaningful and worthwhile left fighting for? That everything is futile and just not going your way?

Before you throw in the towel, clear that mind of yours.

Sit back and reflect.

Reflect hard!

Have you given your absolute all? Have you exhausted all avenues? Have you even taken action?

Sometimes we are just too affected by the negative things other people say. I say take the constructive ones and learn from them. For the just plain nasty comments, screw them!

Most importantly, you cannot give up on yourself even when the whole world has given up on you. Maintain the faith and keep going!

Just take a leaf out of King Leonidas and his small band of Spartan warriors who battled to the death against the overwhelming Persian army in the film ’300′. Now that is what I call COURAGE and PERSEVERANCE. That’s the never-say-die attitude worth emulating.

I have made my own fair share of mistakes and screw-ups. Does it get me down? Sure it does! But I will always pick myself up after that. Without fail. No point indulging in self pity. There are far too important things out there to worry about than just your own mistakes and failures.

Putting it in perspective, just think of the starving kids in Africa, or people who lost their limbs stepping on land mines in Cambodia, or those that lost their loved ones in natural disasters or accidents. Our problems just dwarf in comparison.

Why am I suddenly talking about this? I just read an email from Travis of the Bum Marketing fame, and he was talking about a scene in the show ‘ Facing the Giants’ on not giving up.

It’s really inspirational, so I thought I write something about this topic.

I recently caught the highly controversial but humorous anti-Bush documentary ‘Fahrenheit 9/11′ by Michael Moore, and it seems to me that George Bush can do nothing right.

Despite the provocative nature of the show, Fahrenheit 9/11 still managed to bag an academy award and the best film in the 2004 Cannes film festival. Just goes to show the whole Bush-bashing looks to be the new in-thing. Sure is a good way to garner attention!

Given the whole lot of conspiracy theories about September 11 and Iraq circulating around, the video I’m going to show you isn’t about to boost his popularity ratings further.

We often hear how George Bush screw things up and questions were raised about his intelligence level. This spoof takes this notion to a whole new level.
