How To Get People To Open Up

Negative Body Language Have you ever met someone who is just simply closed to all ideas and suggestions?

One who is skeptical?

And one who cast a wary eye on just about anyone and everyone, maybe even his grandmother?

Actually, if you notice more closely…

You will notice one thing…

Most of these people usually exhibit this body language..

They Have Their Arms Folded!

Aha!

Arms folded. And their mind are also folded too.

If you unlock their arms, you unlock their mind.

Now…just how to unfold their arms?

Let me narrate to you a story…

I was having a meeting the other day at a company together with my colleagues and their management. We were presenting a collaboration plan.

A senior guy from the company just came in halfway to listen in for a while.

He had his arms folded – a sure tell-tale sign of skepticism and maybe to display his authority.

That caught my eye. Luckily, we had a hard copy of our presentation nearby, and I immediately grab it and went up to him. And presented to him with both my hands.

“Why don’t you take a look? Here’s a hard copy for your reference,” I said…

What Happened Next…

You guessed it! His arms unfolded…to take the paper from me – with both his hands!

And there he was…studying the paper.

Bingo!

Magically, his mind became more receptive to our talk. He looked more interested. Possibly even flattered that we took the effort to give him something which he could look at.

He went off after a while.  And the signs were positive.

There you go!

See how easy it is?

To observe the whole process, from start of action to results – it is just absolutely amazing!

Give him something which he has to hold with two hands. And watch how his mind becomes more open.

Simple. And effective.

The next time you see a hot sexy babe, looking ‘untouchable’ with her arm crossed., with negative body language…you know what to do…

I will love to hear your views on this!

All Success,

Does that really work? I have heard of body language but this is new, changing their body language to change their attitude. I’ll have to try it.

Hi Chris,

Yes! Try it! You will be amazed at the result. I was too!

How we react and feel towards something definitely show in our body language.

If we can change their body language to a more favorable one towards us, we will be in a great chance to persuade them to our point of view.

Cheers,
Jag

That is interesting! I will have to experiment with it. I do believe that our body language gives us a wealth of clues as to our state of mind. But, I have never given much thought to whether you could change your attitude by changing posture.

Thanks for sharing this intriguing concept!

Unlock both arms and unlock the mind….BRILLIANT! It makes sense to be sure, and I see that posture all the time now that I think about it.

Sometimes it just takes a simple act to make them open their mind. Amazing isn’t it?

This is so interesting . . . very “Dale Carnegie meets B.F. Skinner.” I love the confluence of behavioral techniques with pop psychology. I’m going to try it at work!

Body language usually tells me everything I need to know a person. I never thought of using it the way you speak though. I guess we can speak even louder than words with body language.

Pink Depression Glass, Best Registry Fix,

Certainly, changing the body language to a more favorable will do a lot to help especially in persuasion.

Body language can give away hints of what the person is thinking. Learning how to body language will definitely give you an edge!

Wow, this is good psychology mate! :) I’ll be sure to try this out. Though, sad it doesnt really apply to people online :p

Hi Jasa,

Well, you may not be able to do it physically online. But there are still many other ways to get people to open up to you.

Such as communicating with them and proving them with quality consistently.

Be sure to try out the technique anyway. =)

Cheers,
Jag

I guess that’s a fairly simple gesture to somehow open a person’s mind into what you want him to receive. I have similar experiences at work, and it’s really difficult to crack open those people with their arms crossed. Of course, making a woman open up to you will be another story!

Hi DomainRegistratie,

I understand where you are coming from. There are a lot of factors to consider.

But you will be surprised. Some of the most effective ways to get people to open up are actually very simple – just like the example I highlighted above.

Oh yes! Making a women open up is another story. Let’s leave that for another story another day!

Cheers!

I like this article. If you can get people to open their arms online you will have a following. I think you could safely say that emoneymarketing has achieved success in getting the reader to open their arms. Court is another successful at this.

btw: I really like the header on this blog. I tend to favor white space with minimal text. I am a fan of the this blog theme. It is very simple and perhaps has a bearing on my arms opening up on this blog.

Arms crossed also means boardom. You can read a person’s body language very easily.
