World Internet Mega Summit Review

It’s day 3 of the World Internet Summit, and I’ve gotta to say that I’ve mixed feelings about the whole event.

Why mixed feelings? Isn’t this supposed to be biggest and most impactful Internet business event of the year? Yes, without a doubt – it is!

Thousands of participants attended. The atmosphere was great. The condition and set up of the hall were done to create a somewhat conducive environment for the speakers to make a powerful connection with the audience.

Moving on to the speakers, some of them are truly world class. David Cavenagh, Armand Morin and in particular, Brett McFall stand out. They were polished in their delivery. Cool, calm and collected, if you will. They definitely do know how to work and engage the crowd. For that, they get two massive thumbs up from me.

Okay I mentioned mixed right? Meaning that there were some negatives. Yes, unfortunately, I felt that way.

Why?

To be honest, I came to the event expecting some truly powerful concepts and secret techniques, but those were few and far between. At least to me.

Updates!

Alright the time is high for an update. It’s been 11 whooping days since I last updated my blog. The longest break interval ever since I started this blog.

Not that I’ve been lazy, just that I’ve been too busy with the setting up of a online marketing consultancy business with my partner. So many administrative issues to be settled.

The good thing is that the office and phone lines have been settled. Everything have gone without a hitch.

Met some clients who are proposing partnerships. Gotta see how it goes.

Now the difficult bit – getting content on the site. Doing up the forum and the blog. Lotsa stuffs to be done!

For sure, the direction of this blog will have to change. Most of my Internet Marketing articles will now go towards our new company’s corporate blog.

You can expect more and better informative articles. It is a good thing that my partner is pretty experienced in web development and marketing. He has handled government projects before and certainly, his contributions to the content will certainly gonna be vitally useful.

8 Random Facts About Me

I have not been blogging as I was away on a holiday. Now that I’m back, there is this sickening pile of work facing me. Argh!

Well, I guess I just got to grind through and bear with it. What’s life without work anyway? Utterly boring that is!

Anyway I’ve been tagged by Robin of FortuneWatch.com to participate in this meme, so here I am!

Actually I don’t really wanna bore you out with 8 facts about myself, but I need to do what’s gotta be done! So, do bare with me…!

8 Random Facts About Yours Truly

  • My idol is the late martial arts legend, Bruce Lee. Yes, I was a big Kung Fu fan when I was young. I even fashioned a nunchaku, Bruce Lee’s signature weapon, out of paper rolls and twirled and swirled it like a crazed madman!
  • I ranked in the 27th percentile in a stock competition that I took part last year even though I only use 40% of the given budget. Till today, I still monitor the virtual portfolio, and presently my returns are in excess of 30%. Damn! Why didn’t I buy it in real life??

Spiderman Meets Internet Marketing

Yesterday I just caught Spiderman 3, and I was pretty blown away by the special effects, storyline and some of the emotional scenes. The best in the series in my view.

You know, while watching the show, it dawned on me that there are certain aspects of Spiderman and the film itself in general, that Internet Marketers can learn from.

We already have an insect associated with Internet Marketing before, so to link Spiderman with Internet Marketing is not that far-fetched.

In case you are wondering what is that particular insect that is associated with Internet Marketing, remember Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing?

Alright, if we can have Butterfly Marketing, surely there must be some space for Spidey Marketing – The Superhero That Saves the Internet Marketing World!

Lameness aside, here are some stuff that we can learn from the web-slinging masked nerd-hero:

1. He cast his sticky strong powerful web far and wide, saving many people in the process, earning him legion of fans

Spidey Marketing Lesson #1

We must come out with strong value added content that are ’sticky’ to get people to come back and yearning for more.

Random Finance Tip #3

If you have noticed, I’ve been neglecting the financial portion of my blog.

I guess this is partially because I’ve also started my editorial consultancy duties for a finance company, and I am a bit less keen on writing more financial articles. Can be quite taxing doing the same things again and again.

That aside, let’s go straight to the point. This is actually a continuation of where I left off from Random Finance Tip #2

So today’s Random Finance Tip and third of this series is……………….

“Always Study The FINE PRINT First Before Buying A Financial Product”
Why? Cos’ everyone always want to show their most beautiful and nicest side first! It’s like when you are chasing after your dream girl, you will want to indulge her with sweet nothings and honey words, and sweep her off her feet with your charm and wit.

You won’t want to scare her away with your fart and body odour, or start acting like a irritating punk, don’t you?

Same thing with financial institutions. They show you the most beautiful side of the deal and make it very prominent, but usually it is just 1 portion of the big picture.

To Be Controversial Or Not?

Nowadays, I’ve been noticing a trend.

A trend which is the tendency to go down the controversial path when it comes to the crafting of headlines. When I talk about headlines, I’m referring specifically to those pertaining to a sales copy or a blog headline of an entry which is making a sales pitch or a promotion.

Hey let me go on record to see that there is nothing wrong with being controversial. In fact, it is good, provided if it is applied the right way. It is a proven psychological trigger that invokes curiosity. And curiosity gets the click.

However there must be a line drawn. You want to be controversial, but you don’t want the headline to be misleading or offensive. If people comes in expecting a certain thing, but are given something else, it will only backfires. Worse still, you piss people off, only for them not to buy something from you again.

I’ve seen a sales copy, or rather an AdWord advertisement, which headline goes:
